Diisobutylaluminum Hydride (DIBAL-H) is the reagent of choice for the partial reduction of a nitrile to an aldehyde. The reaction is typically performed by slow addition of DIBAL-H (~1 equiv) to the nitrile at low temperatures (ex. -78 C).
The reaction map is intended to provide insight into common reactions that take place one step before and after the title reaction. Click on the reaction arrow to visit the page.
