Nitrile to Aldehyde

Common Conditions

Diisobutylaluminum Hydride (DIBAL-H) is the reagent of choice for the partial reduction of a nitrile to an aldehyde. The reaction is typically performed by slow addition of DIBAL-H (~1 equiv) to the nitrile at low temperatures (ex. -78 C).[1]
