Example 1

To a solution of the SM (0.48 g, 1.217 mmol) in DCM was added mCPBA (77%, 0.72 g, 3.2 mmol), followed by NaHCO3 (0.24 g, 2.86 mmol) and Na2CO3 (0.24 g, 2.27 mmol). The reaction mixture was stirred at RT for 3 h, after which time was added 10% aq NaHCO3 and the mixture was extracted with DCM (3x). The combined organics were washed with brine/NaHCO3, dried (Na2SO4), concentrated, and purified by flash chromatography (10-50% EtOAc/hexane) to provide the product as a colorless oil.
