Example 1

To a solution of the SM (6.0 g, 18.8 mmol) in dry THF (50 mL) under N2 at RT was added isopropylmagnesium chloride (2M in THF, 47.0 mL, 94.0 mmol). The mixture was purged with N2 and PdCl2(dppf) (1.54 g, 1.88 mmol) was added. The reaction mixture was again purged with N2 and then was stirred at 50 C for 5 h. The mixture was quenched with H2O and diluted with ether. The mixture was washed with H2O (1x), brine (2x), dried (MgSO4) and concentrated to give a brown residue. The material was adsorbed onto silica gel and purified through a short pad of silica (10% ether/heptane) to provide the product as a yellow oil. [5.0 g, 94%]
