(2-Iodoxybenzoic acid)

General Information:

Structure:

CAS Number: 61717-82-6

Molecular Weight: 280.02 g/mol

2-Iodoxybenzoic acid (IBX) is a reagent typically used to oxidize alcohols to aldehydes or ketones. IBX is not soluble in many common organic solvents. Dess-Martin Periodinane is closely related to IBX and has the major benefit of being much more soluble in various solvents. IBX is considered to possibly be shock sensitive.

Common Uses:

Reagent to oxidize primary alcohols to aldehydes

Reagent to oxidize secondary alcohols to ketones

Safety:

2-Iodoxybenzoic acid (IBX) is possibly shock sensitive.
