Example 1
To a solution of the SM (67 mg, 0.1 mmol) in DCM (5 mL) was added TFA (1 mL). The reaction mixture was stirred at RT for 1 h. The mixture was concentrated in vacuo and diluted with EtOAc (10 mL) and H2O (2 mL). The org layer was dried (Na2SO4) and concentrated. The resulting residue was purified by Prep HPLC to provide the product as an oil. [29 mg, 58%]

Example 2
To a solution of the SM (3.5 g, 7.71 mmol) in DCM (100 mL) was added TFA (2.9 mL, 38.55 mmol). The reaction mixture was stirred at RT for 2 h, after which time sat aq NaHCO3 was added to give pH = 7. The mixture was extracted with EtOAc (3 x 50 mL). The combined organics were dried (Na2SO4) and concentrated to provide the product which was used without further purification. [2.5 g, 88%]
