Example 1

To a solution of the SM (125.0 g, 0.410 mol) in dry MeOH (1.2 L) was added conc. HCl (12N, 3.0 mL) at RT. The reaction mixture was stirred at RT for 2 h, after which time it was concentrated to remove MeOH. The residue was triturated with hexane (800 mL) to provide the product as a white solid. [75.0 g, 96%]
