Example 1

To a stirred solution of the SM (19.0 g, 57.6 mmol) in MeOH (150 mL) was added pyridinium p-TsOH (1.46 g, 5.80 mmol). The reaction mixture was stirred at 50 C for 19 h (monitored by TLC). The mixture was concentrated in vacuo and the resulting material was purified on silica gel (0-15% EtOAc/hexane) to provide the product as a white solid. [90%]
